I was asked to speak at an event this past weekend. Driving on the way there, Starbucks caffeinated beverage at the ready, I kept fidgeting with it, as if the beverage was going to somehow pump motivation into me for this speaking engagement. I looked out the window, sighed, and realized there was no, “Get Your Motor Running” vibe buzzing through me for the talk I was about to give. Alas, I found myself passionless to get out on the speaker’s highway.
Why did the Understanding Women woman, the queen of provoking passion, find herself with no wind in her sails? Very simply put, I was about to speak to a room full of old broads and I had no desire to have my work criticized. Yes, it’s true, I was judging & stereotyping old women everywhere. Mea Culpa.
My assistant did her best to give me a pep talk; she even went so far as to promise me a burger at the end of my talk (I really am such a guy when it comes to food. Promise me something I really want to eat, and I am putty in your hands). But alas, as I watched the room filling with women, most of whom I was pretty sure would point fingers of dismissal at me, I felt a false smile plant itself on my face while a vacuum of emptiness circled in my stomach…a vacuum I’m not even sure that a burger could have filled.
You see, I don’t have such an issue with old people. In fact, I hope to be one some day. However, I have always assumed that “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” and that after a certain point, “You just get set in your ways.” So, the idea of teaching a bunch of women who have been around since Jesus’ time about why the feminine is important after they have spent a lifetime trying to ignore and/or hide their feminine rhythms, was not something I was looking forward to.
Then, without my ability to stop her, the woman introducing me started to rattle on about the marvel that is me. My assistant smiled at me. I grimaced. And before you knew it, I was taking my place at the front of the room–cheesy grin and all.
Of course, as soon as I started talking and engaging the women about this marvelous theme called womanhood, my nutsack dropped, aka: I grew a pair and manned up. I was no longer sitting in front of a room full of scary old biddies who would like to spit in my face and call me disgraceful and unladylike. I was sitting in front of a room of women who were so glad that finally, someone was willing to teach them about womanhood, answer their questions and to listen to their experiences as women.
By the end of the talk I was glowing (and so were the other women in the room) and it felt wonderful to be able to share new perspectives, new information & new insights with a group of women whom I had assumed had seen it all.
Lessoned learned: Who am I to judge?

I can judge you and you are special. Your mind is quick and to the point. ~Ema.
Of course you can judge me! I am the fruit of your loins! Of course sometimes, I act like the gargoyle from your loins….

An attention-grabbing discussion is worth comment. I feel that you need to write extra on this subject, it may not be a taboo topic however generally persons are not sufficient to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers
You really make it seem so effortless with your presentation but I find that topic to be really something that I think I would in no way understand. It seems too complicated and also very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I can try to get the hang up of it!
